Giving Advice - Tanácsadás
The people below would like to find a new job. Decide which piece of advice you would give to which person.
a) John Matthews worked for 25 years in the army. He is now 47 years old. While he was in the army he was a tank driver but he got sick and he can’t walk very well. Arthur receives a pension from the army but he is looking for some part-time work. Arthur is quite good with people. He has four children.
b) Loretta Marconi was born in Italy but she has lived in New York since she was 13 years old. Her children have now all left home. They work or go to university. When she was younger, Maria studied for a degree in art history. She can speak English, French and Italian. She is looking for part-time work.
c) Bill Chance was a teacher of computer science in a secondary school until he decided at the age of 35 that he hated teenagers. He loves cars and he is an excellent mechanic. He is looking for a full time job.
d) Jane Gorner has just left school. Her academic qualifications were not very good. Jane’s mother hated cooking so Jane has cooked for her parents and her two brothers for the past 12 years. While she was still at school she used to work in the kitchen at MacDonald’s at weekends.
1.) Why don’t you take a job as a chef? You’re experienced in this field and you don’t need higher education and good grades to be outstanding in this profession.
2) I think it would be good if you applied for a post as a computer shop assistant. Your IT (information technology) knowledge is advantageous in this field.
3.) I think you should apply for the position of a school bus driver because you can drive a heavy vehicle and you are strict but reliable and these are important qualities when working with children.
4.) Why don’t you take a job as a tourist guide? You have artistic skills and education, and speak more foreign languages, which makes you a perfect candidate for this job.
